Terms of service

These are the terms for using Doppelganger, a personal memory service provided by Doppelganger Technologies (“we”). By signing in you agree to them. Doppelganger is in early access: it is being built in the open, and it will change.

What Doppelganger is

Doppelganger captures data from sources you switch on (your Mac’s screen and audio, your messages, your browsing, and accounts such as Google), stores it in your own account, and lets you search it and ask questions about it. How we handle that data is described in our privacy policy, which is part of these terms.

Your account

You need a Google or Apple account to sign in. You are responsible for keeping that account secure and for everything that happens under your Doppelganger account. You must be at least 18 years old.

Your data

Everything you capture or connect stays yours. You give us permission to store, process and display it only to provide the service to you, as described in the privacy policy. We claim no other rights to it.

You may only capture and connect data you are entitled to process. Recording other people, whether on a call, in a meeting or through their messages, is subject to the laws where you and they are; some places require everyone’s consent. That is your responsibility, not ours.

Connected accounts

When you connect a Google account, you authorise Doppelganger to read the Gmail, Calendar and Contacts data described in the privacy policy, and you agree that our use of that data is governed by it. You can disconnect at any time from the Sources page or from your Google Account settings.

What you may not do

Do not use Doppelganger to break the law, to harass or surveil people who have not agreed to it, to attack or overload the service, or to reverse-engineer it. We may suspend or close accounts that do.

Early access and warranty

Doppelganger is provided as is and as available, without warranty of any kind. It may lose data, misinterpret it or be unavailable, and features may change or be removed. Do not rely on it as your only copy of anything. To the extent the law allows, our liability to you is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss.

Ending things

You can stop using Doppelganger at any time and ask us to delete your account and data (see the privacy policy). We can end the service or your access with reasonable notice, and immediately if you break these terms.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you by email or in the app before the change takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept the new terms.
